Srinagar, 24 Aug (NE): The administration at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, along with its affiliated hospitals, has significantly ramped up security measures to ensure the safety of students, staff, and patients.

This move comes in response to the recent tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a doctor at a hospital in Kolkata and the subsequent related violence.

Authorities at GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals, speaking exclusively to News Eye, stated, “Security has been heightened across GMC Srinagar and its affiliated hospitals to safeguard everyone within the premises. This includes the deployment of additional security personnel across all facilities, increased surveillance through round-the-clock CCTV monitoring, and stricter timing controls to ensure the protection of medical staff and doctors.”

“A dedicated committee has been established specifically to address the safety concerns of female students and staff. This committee will oversee and regulate late-night security rounds, with both police and doctors participating, to ensure that no stone is left unturned in maintaining a secure environment.”

“These security enhancements have been successfully implemented following thorough discussions with police authorities. The deployed personnel will be stationed at critical points within the college and hospital facilities, including the emergency wing, mortuary, indoor wards, corridors, staircases, and outpatient departments (OPDs).”

“Additionally, security has been bolstered at the eight associated hospitals of GMC Srinagar: SMHS, Children Hospital Bemina, Lal Ded Maternity Hospital, Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Chest Diseases Hospital, Bone and Joint Barzulla, Super Speciality Hospital Shireen Bagh, and Kashmir Nursing Home.” They further added.

The government hospitals in Jammu, including GMC and SMGS, have also significantly increased security, deploying armed personnel throughout their facilities, in response to the Kolkata rape and murder case.(News Eye)
