Rajouri, Sep 19: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Thursday said that no secular government in J&K could be formed without PDP.
She appealed to people to vote for the PDP to resist the divisive policies of the BJP.
Addressing a public rally as part of the election campaign for assembly elections in Rajouri, Mufti said that the BJP was spreading the politics of hate and the signals of this were evident everywhere.
“Lynching of people is another glaring example of this approach of hatred,” she said.
Mufti said that considering PDP was a political party that emerged as an alternative to the existing ones, it was the only party of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed which he formed to give people a voice and to end their plight.
“It is due to PDP that Omar Abdullah had to beg for votes before the people. Otherwise, there would have been no alternate for NC,” she said.
The former chief minister said that no secular government in J&K could be formed without PDP.
Appealing for mass voting in favour of PDP candidates in all five assembly constituencies in the district, Mufti said that after dividing people in the names of religions, the BJP was now dividing a minority community in the name of Gujjars and Paharis.
“People should vote and resist against this division,” she said.
Expressing concern over statements of BJP leaders asking Paharis to vote for the party over ST status given to the Pahari ethnic clan, Mufti said that the government’s job was to fulfil the demands of the people and not to ask for favours in return. (Greater Kashmir )
