Srinagar, Apr 03: Authorities have shut down an In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) center operating without proper registration in the HMT area of Srinagar district.
An official told news agency JKNS, the clinic located in Umerabad HMT was sealed as it lacked approval from the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council and the District Regulatory Authority (DRA).
Sources further revealed to JKNS that a widespread fraudulent network is exploiting patients under the guise of IVF treatments, with non-local doctors being brought to Kashmir.
These doctors reportedly direct patients to Delhi and other locations, deceiving them while withholding crucial information about donors and procedures, they said.
Officials have emphasized the need for stricter oversight to prevent couples struggling with infertility from falling prey to such schemes.
They have urged patients to seek treatment only from registered medical facilities.
Concerned citizens have called for firm action against unauthorized clinics to uphold medical ethics and protect patients from malpractice. They stressed that unlicensed centers endanger public health, exploit vulnerable individuals, and tarnish the reputation of the medical profession.
The J&K Medical Council has repeatedly warned against unregistered clinics and urged them to obtain proper accreditation to continue operations. (JKNS)
